Hello, I am a backpacker and I am here to reveal some hidden places in Vilnius you need to look for
Vilnius is a very popular weekend or summer destination. The capital comparing with other countries’ capitals is small, so you won’t spend too much time exploring it. Thus, per one day you can visit almost all must to see places in Vilnius. However, today I am not going to talk about the most popular parts and pearls of Vilnius as it is effortless to find or read about it. As a real local, I will reveal some places and things in Vilnius that are hidden and not very highlighted. So, here it is the six hidden places in Vilnius you need to look for.
Love bar
In Vilnius, there are plenty of bars, which are popular among tourists and locals. However, this one, differently from the others, is located not in the most popular streets of Vilnius, nor has the best signs how to find it. The only one thing that this bar has outside is a small neon heart sign in front of the entry. So that’s it. Intrigues, right? Love bar is located near the Vilnius railway station, near Halės market. Just one neon heart can show you that there is something inside the building. The interior of the bar is modern and stylish, and the cocktails are worth to try. The bar is offering seasonal cocktails, so you will be able to try something different than in other bars. Moreover, of course, the atmosphere of the bar is unforgettable. So for this experience and late night drinks, look for the red neon heart light in Pylimo street 59.
There are little gems all around us that can hold glimmers of inspiration
Swedbank terrace
Vilnius’ sunsets are one of the most beautiful views in this city. Also, some spots are perfect for sunsets views – the hill of Tauras, the hill of Three Crosses, the viewpoint of Subačius. However, there is one more, in the new part of Vilnius – Swedbank terrace. Modern and cozy with the best views of Neris, white bridge, Old Town, and TV tower in front. Wait for the golden hour and visit this small spot. Look for it in Konstitucija prospectus 20a.
Graffiti wall in Užupis
I guess all of you have seen that famous graffiti wall at Keulė Rūkė restaurant with kissing Putin and Trump. In Vilnius, there are some beautiful graffiti paintings on the buildings all around the city. However, there is one more, perfect for pictures, a little bit provocative but worth for visiting while exploring the Užupis district. This wall is near Užupis Art Incubator, so stop by for the cool picture.
Swing in the Užupis
As I already mentioned Užupis, this district is worth for your visit. This district is also called as a bohemian and arts district of Vilnius and has many things to see: from Užupis Art Incubator and statues, old pianos and backpacker Jesus there, to tasty bakeries and restaurants. Even seven bridges lead to Užupis, because the name in Lithuanian means “Behind the river,” thus the Vilnelė river is flowing around this district. Užupis is a perfect place for exploring, but do not forget to look for a swing above the bridge, near the restaurant “Užupio kavinė.” When you find it, take off your shoes and swing like never before in the middle of the river!
Talking Statues
I am not going to talk about people who are acting like statues. I am talking about real sculptures made from concrete which actually are talking! Look for sculpture and the QR code on it, scan the code with your smartphone and listen what statues gonna to tell you. All the stories of those statues will inspire you, and definitely, you will see Vilnius from the different perspective. Look for fifteen talking figures all over the Vilnius, the first one I will spoil to you – Bronze Angel of Užupis, in the center of this district. Good luck with your search!
Hear an echo in the middle of the Cathedral Square
This fun secret thing is hiding in the middle of the city! There is nothing much to tell you. You need to try it by yourself. Go to a Cathedral Square in Vilnius, find one of the most prominent circles there, stand in the middle of it and shout “I love Vilnius”. That is it! An amusing and beautiful thing that even not all locals know about it.
As you can see, despite the most popular and tourists loved places, Vilnius has some more charming and hidden areas you need to look for. So, do not forget to stop by and explore more.
